| "Stack of Dreams" the
debut record from Thad Cockrell, a Kansas-born, Tampa
raised, Chapel Hill based singer-songwriter. with Whiskeytown's
Caitlin Cary and Tift Merritt guest.
Recorded in one day in a North Carolina studio-neighborhood
gals Caitlin Cary and Tift Merritt dropped by to add backing
vocals- this was first intended as a demo. Then, after local
radio picked up on it, roots label Miles of Music did too, and
with a touch of remastering it became Cockrell's debut: just
40 some minutes long (the way albums used to be) and leaving
you wanting more. Simple, bittersweet country played with a
fine tone and groove-love songs for the most part, but seen
from the lonesome, brokenhearted side and sung in a clear, somewhat
yearning voice. Cockrell, who looks like the love child of Doc
Watson and Josh Rouse, is a wrestler (he started making music
when his coach turned him on to Neil Young). He's also a theology
student and a preacher's son.
